Time for some unappetizing scraps. This tablet sure does give me a lot of freedom and makes it easier for me to upload my less-than-perfect-but-were-fun-to-do drawings.

Probably one of the biggest reasons why I like the Superman/Batman team is because of how freaking different they are. Batman says it delicately: "Let you in on a little secret, Superman. I can't fly. Bullets don't bounce off my chest. I can't bend steel in my bare hands. But criminals fear me. I'm sorry normal citizens do too, but I'd rather have that than word on the street what a nice guy I am. That sort of talk could get me killed." So I parodied that concept. ;P Supes' invulnerability gives him plenty of room to outwardly express his delight for saving the citizens of America. Batman however requires an impenetrable facade that makes him seem static, otherworldy - frightening, which does its job overshadowing the fact that he is only human. Definitely a lot of yin and yang going on between those two.

The second strip is - uh - less philosophical. xD Dude, ~Silym and I LOVE playing Batman: Arkham Asylum. Definitely one of the greatest superhero games I've ever seen, and that's because Batman is so darned adaptable, what with his strategies having a similar air to Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, and all of those other cool espionage games. People can have a blast playing Batman utilizing all of his gadgets, martial-arting the tar out of his enemies, exploring a macabre world full of psychotic criminals, forensic clues, mysteries, and monsters with an awesome human character as the hero. Who wouldn't want to base games on something like that?

Superman... is a different story. Being an invulnerable superhero may be entertaining and freeing in the comics, but seriously, how the heck do you build a game around a guy who could potentially solve any calamity less dangerous than a runaway locomotive in about five seconds? Not only would the player hardly ever be in danger of - you know - losing (heaven forbid a game has some challenge to it), but the fact that Superman is literally able to go wherever he wants whenever he wants as fast as he wants can be tricky business when a game needs to set up boundaries for the hero to explore without making it seem unrealistic or restrictive.

The Superman Returns videogame is certainly the most successful installment thus far, but it still has a lot of qualms. The 80 square mile map is, I must say, the absolute biggest game world is have ever heard of. The whole flying business is pretty flawless too, and zipping around Metropolis at supersonic speed is something they did right. The actors from the movie were also the voice actors, which is neat. But everything else sucks, from the animation, to the array of villains, to interaction with the environment, etc. I do feel for designers attempting to mold a game around someone so bloody powerful and indestructible.

It seems the boy in blue is cursed with bad videogames (Superman 64, anyone? Hehehe, worst game of all time). No wonder Clark is depressed. The game industry better not give up though. I want my awesome Superman sandbox game, pronto. :] Maybe a Superman/Batman sandbox game? *GASP.* *Dead.*

Ironically the ps1 version of Superman 64 is much better when it never even released
