I've been really psyched about the Skyrim DLC "Dawnguard" lately, even if I don't have the game. I'm a SUPER HUGE fan of gargoyles, and after reading about them being in said DLC, I just... my nerdy heart imploded. They look smashing too, if I do say so myself. <3

This is my take on those lovable stone guardians of lore. Weirdly, I don't have a lot to say about this. I just... wanted to draw a gargoyle and let you guys know that I love them. .____. Roar.

Just out of curiosity, how did you decide whether the arm or the wing was on top? Idk if this question makes sense, I'm just wondering about the muscle structure & whatnot.

I think I was looking around for which area had the most space to attach a large muscle to, and the back area beneath the arm seemed to be a good spot to place it. I've heard a bunch of different theories, but apparently it can go above, below, or right behind the arm - it just depends on your design tastes. As for me, I didn't want the scalene muscles to be ridiculously huge, so I had the muscle below the arm and had it slope upward, just so he isn't too top-heavy.

Now I hope I made a little sense. xD Here's a little something that could help. It's a four part tutorial that discusses the matter. [link] Theories might very well be different with four-legged creatures though.

ahhh cool, thanks a lot!! :) I enjoy it when artists really think through the reality of the appendages and monsters they create, so I was just curious to know your thought process on the matter :)

I want to be a Gargoyle sometimes too .... or at least a Gargoyle Gecko, they have the most ridiculously adorable little hands.

:O

I love the dark edge of the gargoyle and I really like how I can tell its one but that you also put your own modifications on this.

Har, you should totally draw yourself as a dragon. ;D You can be orange with a Superman symbol on your wings or something~
