Justice Awakening Chapter One Art by Harseik Justice Awakening Chapter One Art by Harseik
...

The submission process has changed. o o I recommend fullview unless you like looking at pixily blobs.

Anyway, I'm sorry I keep running away. It's not nice. I was gone partly because of winter break, partly because my inbox is scary-full, partly because I was concentrating on an original story, partly because college classes started off bumpily, and partly because of... Champions Online. That game took over my life for over a month. I no kid. But I think I've recovered, and now that I've blown the dust off of my tablet and have been using it again, I want to get back into the swing of things. I hope that's okay. ]: I want to submit more things today, but I got to be out and about in a few. So we'll see.

I need to apologize some more, because I don't think I'll be going through with the JLA webcomic, the one thing I had been slaving over since, like, September. My creative consultant is just too busy all the time, and I figured that I needed something more original for both my portfolio and my funky brain's sake. Something I can work on by myself, I guess. I'm sad to close Justice Awakening, but I think this might be for the better. This means you'll be seeing a lot more original concepts from me, so I hope they're enjoyed.

But before I lay this fancomic to eternal rest, I wanted to show the conceptual art I'd done for it thus far. To prove that I really was working on it, here's a link to the complete script for the first chapter. Right here if you're bored or something: ( [link] ) The transfer caused it to lose its font and formatting though, so it's not very easy to read.

Stone God? Crystal Creature? Glass Man? What ever could those be? ;] I tried to size all of the images correctly, but that just didn't happen, so don't consult that aspect, because lol, Bruce looks so short. The crazy people on the right of the train are introduced and explained in the script.

Well, Justice Awakening was a fun ride. I had tons and tons and tons of (I thought) cool ideas for it (JSA, Despero reimagining, Aqua... chick) many I probably shouldn't disclose just in case I want to use them somewhere else. But, uh... yep. It was gonna be sweet, at least for me, but I really have to move on en stuff. *Sigh.*

If anyone has questions about Justice Awakening, I'd be totally cool with answering. S'all good. <3 I hope everyone's having an excellent 2013 thus far!

On that Panamanian woman, are those just facial tattoos like some indigenous tribes would have or is that something else altogether?

I love the way that you capture these characters!! I love it! You don't go into all of that romance stuff either, which I also love! Love ... that you don't do that, not love the romance ... ...      .... YOU get what I mean! Well, I'm just saying, the Bruce and Clark friendship is like, my favorite, (I like Bruce best, but only by a little now that I know everyone else) I love the threesome friendship with Diana, and I love Hal, Barry and J'onn. I love J'onn. He's just adorbs! And Hal's such a butt in such a purposeful way ... and Barry is just so friendly and Clark is just so ... so ... Clark! He's just Clark, and Bruce, is BATMAN!! Just ask him, he'll tell you! (course you gotta catch him in costume or he's Bruce Wayne.) I love Arthur too, I just love Arthur, and all of his king of the sea moodiness! And last, but definitely not least, I love Ollie. Ollie is great, he's like the Tony Stark of DC with Hawkeye powers (and more imaginative arrows, I think.) Oh, I just love them all! And you get them all great. Really, all of them. (I've wanted to upload some Superhero pictures a lot lately, but my scanner doesn't work, so ... it's not really workin' out for me. But your pics are fantastic, and you understand the characters the same way I do! ...

Speaking of, have you read JL8? If you haven't, I suggest looking it up. You. will. CRY with the cuteness! It will be so cute and ... Well ... It will be SO FLUFFY YOU'RE GONNA DIE!!! I promise. It is the comic king of fluffiness. I will try to get pictures up, but I'm not as good as you. Really, keeping arting. I mean it, PLEASE keep ARTING! People like you can't just stop! You're pictures make my whole day! (especially that "What's up?" comic with Clark attempting to be a smart-butt. Thank you for that. I really needed it. :) ;)

I wish I could let you borrow my scanner, but I guess that's not technically possible. :C I guess you could use a phone... or sneak into a college classroom, lol. I wonder if libraries have scanners now.

Anyway, I'm glad that you enjoyed my concept art, as well as my DC art in general. It really lifts my spirits whenever I hear about how inspiring it is for people and getting them excited for this intense and amazing fandom. <3 I agree with a lot of what you said, especially about Queen's arsenal of arrows being more creative than Hawkeye's. Maybe it's gimmicky, but I look at it as a guy integrating a plethora of useful tools into his crime fighting the best way he knows how. Can't argue with that, man.

That's true, I'm not very big on romance, though I do support a few OTPs (most of them being canon). But I'm generally not into the lovey-dovey stuff. Friendships and familial ties are probably more important to me. That might be because I have more experience with those kinds of relationships. I might change my mind if ever meet my significant other, but until then... EXPLOSIONS AND THRILLS ABOUND.

Oooooh, yes, I'm a big fan of JL8... though I admit I've fallen behind by about a year. D: I should really get caught up.

Yes, definitely get caught up. And do you mean OTP's like Bruce and Selina, Clark and Lois, Hal and Carol? That kind of thing? (btw, I loved that you used the word plethora, cause Bertie Wooster uses it in reference to his aunts, and I love him, even if you probably don't know who that is. :) I'll figure out my scanner someday ... :/ hopefully. But until then, I must learn to implement the mouse in a way that won't make me want to break the computer. Thank you for being a good artist, I truly do enjoy your work ... not only because it's good, but because it's also not inappropriate. I hate artwork where people just had to draw her with less clothes, or none. Or had to have them swear. As a christian myself, I'm against that, but it still permeates almost every artists work. I appreciate that you don't do that. :) Thanks. Not only is it derogatory to the characters, but also to the people who drew it. It's like they care more about the bodies than the characters, ... just ... thanks for not doing that. :) And keep it up, it's all great. ;)

I can get on board with the Bruce/Diana thing since it actually makes a lot of sense, but only as a temporary relationship, because I firmly believe that Steve Trevor has everything Diana desires that Bruce lacks. The same goes for Selina Kyle since she and Bruce truly complete each other. I'm AAALLLL for Hal and Carol, and as for Lois and Clark, well... there is no fictional couple more dynamic and electric than those two. It's no wonder there are so many songs and books centering around their relationship.

I use the word "plethora" a lot even though it's too excessive to use as a descriptor most of the time. I just like the sound of it. xD

That's very encouraging to hear. People like you are the reason why I attempt to keep things cultured. Things may not always be sane or conventional around here, but the last thing I want to be is tasteless. Like you, I also believe that objectifying characters dilutes what they stand for, especially to the minds behind the creations, but I'm human just like everyone else, sure. I'm bombarded with sexual temptation on a daily basis, and that's exactly why I try to refrain from feeding my and my audience's base instincts. I'm all for tasteful nudity, but hey, I want it to be meaningful and help the viewer affirm an emotion, because I could argue that every inch of the human body is of a God-made design and deserves to be featured in art. But if someone creates something just because it turns them on, then I can't get behind that. I find it crude and can lead to an unhealthy addiction.

I have close friends and family members that are plagued by that addiction, so when people avoid it, I always want to go in for the high five, ya'know? Like "Great job not being a sheep and following the world, fellow strange person!" I wish I could say that to everyone, but I'm really just a nerd.

... And I agree, Steve and Diana ought to go together. I totally didn't even think of them (I'm glad you did. Now I feel like I owe Wondy an apology), but I've always been for Bruce/Selina. They just ... work. :) (Maybe it's the darkness thing, and the fact that she's almost always right on the edge of the law, if not crossing it.) My little sister hates Lois, but I think she's just seen bad portrayals of her. I've read some really great fics with her in them, and can't help liking her because of them. :) She's actually very deep, but then, most great characters are. So as soon as you get past the fact that she's always somehow the one Superman saves, which, now that I know about her better, I know it's not just because of her job, but because she knows Supes is gonna catch her every time she falls, and so she's willing to go into situations that regular people would avoid. ;) I don't think I'd be scared of anything either, if I knew I had a super bullet-proof alien that could defy gravity in love with me. :)

I've also never gone for the Clark/Diana. I think they're more like siblings, and Bruce is their grumpy brother. Just one big dysfunctional family, am I right? That could totally work too! Clark and Diana are like the oldest siblings, who watch over the younger ones in their infinite bulletproofness, Bruce is like the moody teenager that always wants to be alone in his room. J'onn is like the foreign exchange student that everyone loves, but has trouble understanding every once in a while, and Arthur is the overprotective also kinda moody kid who likes to spend more time in the backyard pool then with the family. Ollie, Barry and Hal are the three pranksters. Ollie jokingly suggests a stupid idea, Hal convinces them that it's "totally worth it, there's nothing to be scared of, ... or are you chicken?" And Barry usually implements it, being faster than the others. I can see it all now. :) I don't know who the parents would be though ... Alfred? Nope. He's the Butler, and Ma and Pa are in charge. Just cause they can be. ... Wow. That was a tangent. :) Oh well, it's fun to imagine, just like putting them in a high school setting. :)

And on a last random note, I've always wanted to draw a picture of the love interests. Naturally, the only one who wouldn't be included is J'onn, unless you wanted to put My'ri'ah (did I spell that right?). I've always imagined that they would be friends, all getting together and conspiring about their strange love affairs. So it'd be Selina (Bruce), Lois (Clark), Steve (Diana), Mera (Arthur), Dinah (Ollie), Iris (Barry), and Carol (Hal). I just think that would be hilarious. Like them watching the TV and it being a report or something ... like ...

REPORTER: "There's been another break in at Star Labs, but luckily, the Justice League was there to put out the resulting fire. Superman, with his amazing super-breath was able to put it out in minutes, and between the Flash and the rest of the League, there were no casualties."

LOIS: (snorting slightly) "Super-breath. Huh. Ya'know, that explains a lot about Smallville."

IRIS: (chuckling) " 'Between Flash and the rest of the League'?  ... So ... Just Barry?"

CAROL: (nodding) "Between all of them, I'm amazed there's still a League, what with Hal's completely singular talent of-"

MERA: (putting an abrupt hand up) "Be silent, there is more."

DINAH: (pursing her lips and glancing sidelong at her companions in irritation) "Yeah, we've already missed part of it 'cause of you."

REPORTER: "Several survivors had this to say about the incident:"

SURVIVOR #1: (shaking) "I thought I was dead, the fire was all around me, and then this guy just walks in and picks me up. I-I thought he was Superman, but that made him real mad; he was Aquaman. Aquaman! Aquaman's real! Never forget that!"

MERA: (rolling eyes) "Between people like that and snarky cops asking if he wants a drink of water, I'm surprised Arthur's not holed up in his lighthouse all over again.

STEVE: (looking surprised) "He really does have a lighthouse?"

SELINA: (glancing up from her meticulously done nails) "Oh honey, I feel you. But at least it's not a cave." (She sighs dramatically, striking a pose) "I wouldn't mind it, since black IS my favorite color, but a giant penny? It's just tacky, souvenir or not."

DINAH: (putting hands on hips and looking critically at Selina) "And ugly Egyptian cat statues aren't tacky?"

SELINA: (leaning forward and licking lips slowly) "Better than stockings, dear."

IRIS: (sighing) "Are we really going to do this now?"

MERA: (not looking away from the screen) "I think you meant again."

SURVIVOR #2: (wide eyed) "Then she just picked me up, and flew me out of there, ... like, like an ANGEL."

STEVE: (slight smile)

LOIS: (frowning a little) "An angel wearing the flag."

STEVE: (fully grinning) "Best kind."

SURVIVOR #3: (blinking) "It was really hot, and I was praying for anything to save me, and then there was this ... green light ... it, it was all over and- ... I'm alive."

CAROL: (looking suspicious) "Why is it that he glows the most right when he rescues people? I feel like he does that on purpose, so everyone knows that it was him."

IRIS: (humming in agreement) "I wouldn't put it past him. Maybe he feels like it makes up for the fact that Barry can save five people while he saves one."

DINAH: (about to say something but stops at the reporter's next words)

REPORTER: "Now a word from the Leaguers themselves;" (turns to the Justice League behind him, all busy except for Superman, who turns) "Do you believe that you'll be able to apprehend the criminals who committed this atrocious act?"

SUPERMAN: (standing tall, curl perfect) "As usual we will do all that is in our power to apprehend these criminals."

G.L.: (coming up from behind) "And just in case you haven't noticed ... all that's in our power?"  (juts chest out) "That's a lot."

CAROL: (small facepalm)

BARRY: (popping from between Supes and G.L.) "Don't worry citizens, we'll take care of it ... Professionally. Cause that's what we do. ... As superheroes." (mega-watt grin)

STEVE: (glancing at Iris's mirror facepalm of Carol's) "That kid is the cheesiest one of 'em."

SELINA: (looking up from her nails again) "No one's disagreeing sweetheart, Tall Dark and Handsome is better with the cameras than that."

DINAH: (looking a little mischievous) "I notice he's not there."

SELINA: (making kissy lips back) "Neither is a certain Arrow."

DINAH: (About to answer, but once again cut off by the reporter)

REPORTER: "There you have it folks, straight from the mouth of the horse, it's taken care of. We can all rest easier knowing that the Justice League is watching over us."

LOIS: (drowning out the rest of the news) "What a load of crap, that is SO not the whole story!" (pulls out phone and begins to type)

MERA: (standing) "I should go meet Arthur. He'll want to talk about it." (leaves room)

STEVE: (still staring at the TV that Dinah turned off to fight with Selina) "I sleep easier every night with that angel overhead." (dopey smile as he gets up) "I'm callin' it a night. Same time next week?"

IRIS: (deep in conversation with Carol) "Yes, but we're meeting an hour earlier. Lois has a meeting later that night."

STEVE: (on his way out) "Sounds good, see ya then!" (door closes)

CAROL: (standing as well) "Thanks for hosting again Iris, but Hal promised me dinner again, and this time he's not gonna be late by 9 months."

IRIS: (hugging Carol) "At least we know where they're disappearing to now. Sure you don't want to stay? Barry's bringing Chinese. ... From China."

CAROL: (laughing) "Don't give Hal another excuse to put it off. He's been doing it for too, long and tonight is the night." (starts out the door) "So I'll see you later and we can have Chinese then." (pauses and sticks head back in for a moment) "From America, if you don't mind."

IRIS: (laughs then turns to Selina and Dinah) "Ladies ..."

DINAH: (snaps) " 'Take it outside,' we know!" (stalks out the door, Selina following behind with a wink at Iris)

SELINA: "Thanks for the party hon, I'll be here next week."

LOIS: (finishes texting) "Clark's comin' to pick me up. It was fun, but I've got a story to write." (leaves on a mission)

BARRY: (flashing in with armfuls of food) "I'm here!"

IRIS: (grinning) "And you brought the food!"

BARRY: (putting it all down on the table and setting it in 3 seconds) "Of course I did ..." (looks around) "Did no one want to stay?"

IRIS: (taking a seat at the table) "They all had dates."

BARRY: (taking a seat across from her) "Well, I did pass a cat-fight on the way in, so ... more food for us, right?"

...

That ended up being really long. But once I got typing, I didn't really want to stop. Oh, well. Now you have a mini fic on your page. courtesy of me. :) ;) Now you have no choice but to understand what I meant earlier. ... I just thought it could be one of many potentially great scenarios. :) ;)

So question, about your creative consultant...what exactly would the job entail, if it's open (not trying to step on any toes)? If you need someone to bounce ideas off of, I'd love to hear from you.

It's sad that you're not going through with it though, your art work is amazing.

I was reading in your comments you do a lot of writing based rping, is it just on that site or do you ever do it on IMs too? *hopeful* No one I know rps the DC world [not that I', complaining too much, we do other things that are fun!]. Be nice to geek out with someone XD I'll stop rambling now

" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (lol) " This hit me, I laughed so hard. Cannot explain why XDD

Ahhh :) Good to have you back, Har. Missed you <3

The first thing I realized here is that you tend to draw the male superheroes rahter slim and athletic when theyre not dressed up like those gherkinis we all love xD Otherwise theyre.. "more beefy", can you say that?

Clark for example. If you take a look at his chest the time you drew "Just stoppit" and now, when hes standing there, almost the same pose, just without the costume, there is a difference. He seems.. almost like a normal guy XDD Well, a normal guy whos rather frequently paying visits in the fitness-gym, but you know what I mean.

Okay, the thing with Hal is something different, from you I only know him being athletic, so, huh. xD

..But do not listen to me, Im being derpy today.
Still, Im drooling over your skills.. So.. correct xD Anatomy, natural posing, just.. gah. *goes crazy with jealousy*

I like the outfits you gave Diana and Hippolyta alot. Did you do a research? They look so classical Roman :3 It suits them in many ways <3

Personally I do like Jonns design the most. Drawing monsters and aliens definetly is your thing, really XD *Points at Clarks cuddly companions* Adorable <3 Id like one as a pet. Id name it Cujo and make it scare off people I dont like :iconderpplz:

Good work here, I see progress <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Oh, btw, do you have iScribble?

Oh gawd, you took a look at the script? I thought no one was gonna do that. D: Now I'm embarrasseddddd.

Thank you for the warm welcome. :D

Oh, that's because the comic was going to have its own look to it, plus they were gonna be younger than how I usually draw them in my gallery. "Just Stoppit" is a more mature picture. Though guys like Clark were still gonna be brawny in the comic despite the age difference. I actually drew him fairly muscular when I was sketching his figure. Baggy clothes just have a funny way of hiding your physique, which was exactly what I was going for. ;]

Hal's sheet was kind of messed up. I was gonna do a new one because the proportions are so out of wack. Hal's supposed to have a military physique though. He still does his crack-of-dawn runs every morning. Haha.

I did do research. And I'm glad it's showing a bit. C: Thank ya!

I was super-excited to do J'onn. The sections all over his body are actually a slices that shift out an in depending on what form he takes. I wuv the monsters. <3 I WUV CUJO TOO.

I do not have iScribble. o O What's that?

I peeked :B *feels cool*

Aaaahhh, okay, that makes much more sense. ..You fooled me!
Whenever I see some JL I think for them as being adults.
..There should be more JL by the time there were younger. When theyre, like, trying to find the limits of their powers and skills.
Thats why I adore Smallville so much <3

Aw, youre welcome ^^

Gotta wuv them all! (lol )

Well, how to explain that.. iScribble is an online platform where you can draw with people from all over the world- on the same board. Chatting and stuff included. Its fun, because you meet all kind of people with different styles. Most of them are friendly, you can easliy spend a nice evening :3
Its free and you dont have to invest time in your account in case youre busy.
(Btw, roleplaying there is quite funny, you can illustrate everything you just wrote xD )
I was wondering if we could scribble together ^^

Oh, of course. I mess with their heights all the time. xP I'm just baffled at how their median height in the comics is 6'2''. That's just crazy! No love for short people.

Question. How come your make Bruce's skin is darker than Clark's? I'm not hating or anything, your stuff is beast, but I'd think since Batman's a more nocturnal character, he'd be paler because of less sunlight. idk Just a thought. Anyways, keep up the good work! :)
