Sometimes my stuff leans toward semi-realism (last submission) and sometimes it looks cartoony, like this. Where's my freaking consistency?!
I feel real bad that I didn't consult the original design, like, at all... but I was pretty determined to create my own personal GL design - with the help of a couple of dA concepts that were floating around in my favorites. For instance, the whole green half thing came from this piece of awesome work from Zander Yurami and The Kid Lantern [link], while the idea of bringing a lot of emphasis to the ring hand came from this [link] (which is amazing and perfect and I wish I thought of it first and I tried real hard to keep myself from copying any aspect of it... though I really love the space camo idea... D: ohmygosh).
I'm sad because I forgot to make his badge glow. Actually I'm kind of sad that I forgot to make more of his costume glow in general. I always think of him as the ultimate nightlight, hence why Batman hates his guts. xD But at the same time I like this more militaristic, darker green scheme going on. Maybe he envelopes himself in an aura or something, like the way Stewart does it in the JL animated series.
I originally drew and colored a close-up of his face with his domino mask on to be included in this pic, but I really botched up his hair and only noticed at the last second, then I accidentally saved over the original, non-merged file. ;C Tears.
I definitely thought the offset badge thing was a cool idea. I felt like it brought about a policeman vibe, which is what the Corps essentially is in my eyes, albeit with a military/ambassador flair.
To explain the full mask idea, I never thought the domino mask was the greatest disguise, so during the small occasions where he has to deal with friends or the press, he has a more appropriate disguise to fall back on. That and he thinks he looks hardcore. <<; All in all, he's usually wearing the domino mask or not at all.
Do you all know who Olan Rogers is? Well, my Hal's personality has some traits based off of him, so to pay tribute I gave him Olan's amazing dimples.
As usual, I'm open for criticism regarding any design or anatomy issues, just don't judge the lineart itself. I know his left hand looks washed out. That's because I had to replace its colors at the last minute. >_o
And yes, I understand that the departure is quite drastic. I uh... hope it's not too bad.
Excellent design! What say we change the emblem and perhaps the colors and create an original OC from this? Perhaps you could bring him over to KING? Let's talk if you're interested... note me.
Thank you so much for the interest in my work, though I'm actually going to be using this design for a fan comic. I'll be freelance for a while. ;] Again, thank you!
That's cool. Have fun! Would you be interested in working with us on anything? Our comics are Christian-based, btw. I have a few characters that need fleshed out...note me. If not, ROCK ON!
i thought the ring gauntlet was cool
