EDIT: For all you creature art peeps, I'm working on an Ollow concept right this very second and I love it. I'm hoping it'll be done super-soon!
I keep saying I'd draw somebody else. OMG I'M SUCH A LIAR I'M SORREH. </3 I love how much you can play with Clark's design though. 8O
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Superman's New 52 design. Jim Lee, I love you, and you're a fantastic artist - one of the best out there... but you might want to work on those costume design muscles o' yours, or give the conceptualizing to somebody who can.
Not that I'm saying I have what's necessary to design a costume for Superman that is both different and respectable to the character. I tried though. :/ I wanted to see if I could chalk something out that's better than the high collar v-neck, armor boot concept that is personified in the New 52. Unlike Jim Lee's version, I was trying to keep in mind that he hides the freakin' costume under his civilian clothes, so as usual, I kept the cloth close-fitting and simple (no armor/padding, yo!).
At least it's a little better than Henry Cavill's costume... maybe. I dunno, maybe I like a few things on that version. I can take it in small doses. :T
I forced myself to leave the briefs off, but it was HARD, because I'm sure you all know how much I love his trunks. Dx But you know, there's a sizable crowd out there that is yearning for a more contemporary costume for the Man of Steel. I gave it a shot, trying to make it as streamline as I could and spreading the color around equally without turning it into a complete mess. Don't know if I succeeded though.
I still like the original way more. Yup. :]
Opinions? Does it look bad? Should I try again sometime? I'm not much of a designer myself. xD Tear it up if you want. I appreciate feedback.
One niggle only: the chaps look with the trousers hooking into the beltline. I prefer the golden piping on your flying version of this design, although personally the belt shouls overlap the piping. But I'm just old that way. And again, props for not hulking out Kal.
I did that on my most recent drawing so the piping serves as belt loops to keep the belt for slipping around. Yeah, this particular version is flawed. I really don't like the shield either. xD Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
it's too complicated for comic book artists to draw frequently while I think it's more awesome, the DCnU one is easier to draw The MoS one is simpler and a costume so they only have to make it once
Hmm, I dunno. Have you seen all of the random lines and seams and plates covering the New 52 suit? One of the biggest problems I have with the new look is that it's so busy (a Jim Lee habit, really), which is why I left my version very simple and, hopefully, painless to reproduce (though I'd probably make a bit of changes to this - this is considered old now, haha).
I love this, its defiantly new and not the "underwear on the outside" thing they were trying to get away from, but with the red in the groin area it still give homage to that in a stylish way. Kudos... you should send this to DC and tell them to put you on the pay roll lol.
By far my favourite version of the Superman costume yet! It's sleak, somehow alien, cool as hell, and yet it retains that Superman look. Would you consider doing another drawing like this at some point?
You've inspired me to start up another concept. C: I wasn't sure if people were sick of me drawing Supes in every other deviation or not. That sucks because I really do create concepts for him every chance I get. I don't want to get repetitive though. ><
But yes, Superman concept number 387,938,440,998, coming up. xD
