Solar Flare

This requires some s'plainin', right? Oh, and I swear to freaking goodness that the next picture will be of Batman. I just wanted to get this out of my brain first. You know that Smallville-esque comic I was thinking about doing? Welp, it snagged my interest again. Here's a little conceptual scene focusing on one of the early villains.

Like, what the heck am I doing to DC Comics? I can't participate in any fandom without putting a ridiculous amount of monsters in it. xD I'm happy though, because I never get to use my more 'cooky' creature designs for anything else. This time I drew a floating rock thingy with eight arms and a spiky beaver tail, which I guess you can't see now because of the beam. This is the updated version of my OC villain Vigor ([link]). Muuuuch more different now, obviously, though I think I'm still gonna have it use Victoria as a human host. Vigor is a sun beast that, because of earth's gravity, stranded itself on earth. Why it's able to handle Lana-face without melting her or setting her on fire I'll never know. Suspension of disbelief. Do it for me, please. : D

The story here isn't very complicated. Such teen Lana-face playing damsel and Clark stepping in to slap da villain silly. At least we hope he slaps him silly. With Vigor's powers in mind, it might just kill Clark. :/ Crap. At least after this fight Clark would receive a boost in power, what with his close proximity to all of that solar radiation... unless he explodes. ... I'm gonna talk about something else now.

I think my favorite part of this is Lana-face. She actually looks uncomfortable and trapped.

I used references for the corn crops, but that's it (which means that I should really start using more refs Dx). Again, there were a lot of effects that I wanted to do, but simply forgot to do so, like soil being kicked up from the beam impact and sky detail. Got to invest in some sticky notes or something. Every time I chalk out a scenic drawing I always learn something new, so expect to make plenty more of them in the future (even if they do take like 15 hours to complete). I'm trying really hard to make my art more dynamic. I hope I'm getting somewhere.

One last thing. Please don't tell me how much Vigor looks like one of your characters, or how much Vigor reminds you of so-and-so. It makes me sad when I draw something original and I'm told that it looks like something else. If any of you do stuff like that, know that it makes artists cry and you should discontinue such practices. ]:
